New Delhi: Chandni Chowk MP, Shri Praveen Khandelwal, raised concerns in Parliament today about delays in Delhi Metro projects related to the Model Town area. He sought updates on the progress and revised timelines for the Pink Line (Maujpur to Majlis Park) and Magenta Line (Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg) under the Delhi Metro Phase-IV project.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, through reply laid on the table of the house informed that two major metro lines currently pass through the Model Town area: the Yellow Line (Line-2) and the Pink Line (Line-7). These include eight metro stations, namely Vidhan Sabha, Vishwavidyalaya, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Model Town, Azadpur, Adarsh Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, and Majlis Park.
The minister further stated that the extensions of the Pink Line and Magenta Line under Phase-IV, which pass near the Model Town area, have been affected by delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, land acquisition issues, and pending tree-cutting permissions. Projects initially slated for completion in 2024 are now running over a year behind schedule.
Highlighting the inconvenience caused by these delays, Shri Khandelwal remarked, “This has created significant difficulties for the public, particularly working professionals and students. The government must take immediate steps to ensure a resolution.”
The Union Minister assured that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is committed to completing the projects on time and is prioritizing the resolution of pending issues.
