Chandni Chowk MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal has called for a meeting with senior officials from various departments on 21st October to discuss issues related to sanitation, traffic, encroachments, and security. The objective of the meeting is to develop a roadmap for immediate action to improve the condition of Old Delhi’s markets ahead of Diwali.
In light of the upcoming festive season, Shri Khandelwal has invited officials from multiple departments, including the Municipal Corporation, Police, Water Board, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, Electricity, and Public Works Department, to address the pressing issues in the markets. These issues include the deteriorating sanitation, sewer problems, traffic congestion, encroachments, and inadequate security in the area.
Shri Khandelwal criticized the Delhi government for neglecting the markets, leaving them in a state of disrepair. “The Kejriwal government has completely abandoned the markets, and as a result, Old Delhi is grappling with numerous problems. Even during an important festival like Diwali, no improvements have been made. Sanitation has collapsed, roads are clogged with encroachments leading to traffic jams, and security arrangements are insufficient,” he stated.
Old Delhi, a hub of commercial activity, is currently facing serious challenges related to sanitation, encroachments, and chaotic traffic. Encroachments are causing significant trouble for traders and customers alike, while sanitation is worsening by the day. The lack of security is creating further difficulties for traders and consumers. Areas like Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, and Chawri Bazaar are in particularly poor condition. The expected increase in foot traffic during Diwali could exacerbate the traffic issues.
Shri Khandelwal stated that the goal of the meeting on 21st October is to find solutions to these problems. A comprehensive plan will be created in coordination with all concerned departments to ensure that the condition of the markets is improved before Diwali, and customers can shop without any inconvenience. “Delhi’s markets are the backbone of our economy, and it is the responsibility of the Delhi government to address their deteriorating condition. Unfortunately, the government’s indifference has worsened the situation. This meeting will be a critical step towards rectifying these issues. Coordination between departments will ensure that both traders and customers have access to better facilities during the festive season,” he added.
