28 May, New Delhi:
Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Chandni Chowk, Delhi, criticized the Kejriwal government and the MCD for the widespread waterlogging and flood-like conditions in the lower areas of the national capital following the rain on Friday morning. He stated, “This is just the beginning of the monsoon, and we are already witnessing such conditions. During heavy rains in the coming days, we might need boats to navigate Delhi.”
Due to the rain from 2:30 AM to 5:30 AM on Friday morning, many areas of Delhi experienced waterlogging, and water entered homes in several low-lying areas. Traffic was severely affected, and many people were stranded on the roads due to waterlogging. Holding the Delhi government and the MCD responsible for the flood-like conditions, Mr. Khandelwal said, “It is extremely unfortunate that just a few hours of rain have created this situation in the capital. People are stuck in their vehicles due to waterlogged streets, and water entering homes has worsened the situation. The misery of Delhi residents is solely due to the failure of the Delhi government and the inactivity of the MCD. Mr. Kejriwal has done nothing but make hollow promises and meaningless fasts over the years, and the careless attitude of the MCD has added to the misery. The current state of Delhi clearly shows that neither the Delhi government nor the MCD was prepared for the monsoon. All PWD drains are overflowing because they were not cleaned before the monsoon. This has led to waterlogging on roads and in homes, causing severe inconvenience to the public. The Kejriwal government’s mismanagement has led to crises, from water shortages to water excess.”
He further added, “This is what happens when a state’s leader only thinks about himself and his party. Every year, the same conditions occur during the rainy season in Delhi, and instead of learning from their mistakes, Mr. Kejriwal is busy filling his pockets, and when he gets time, his senior party leaders sit on pointless fasts. Now Delhi is running on God’s mercy, but their truth is out in front of the public. They can no longer fool the people. The work they were supposed to do is now being done by the seven BJP MPs from Delhi. We are assessing the situation on the ground and taking appropriate actions.”
