World Bank data validates transformational governance of PM Modi

In a significant endorsement of India’s development trajectory under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the latest data released by the World Bank reveals a remarkable decline in extreme poverty across the country over the past 11 years-said Mr Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk & member of Parliament Standing Committee onCommerce.

According to the World Bank:

269 million people have been lifted out of extreme poverty between 2011–12 and 2022–23.

The extreme poverty rate has fallen steeply from 27.1% in 2011–12 to just 5.3% in 2022–23..The number of people living in extreme poverty has reduced from 344.47 million to 75.24 million.

Mr Khandelwal said that this data is a testament to the visionary leadership, inclusive policies, and economic reforms undertaken by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi since assuming office in 2014. Through targeted welfare schemes, digital empowerment, rural development, and direct benefit transfers (DBT), the Modi government has laid a strong foundation for poverty eradication and social equity.

He said that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi are just a few examples of how the Modi government has prioritised the upliftment of the most marginalised sections of society.

Khandelwal further said that this sharp decline in poverty is not just a statistical achievement but a reflection of hope, dignity, and economic empowerment reaching the grassroots. It also reiterates India’s march towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Khandelwal also said that this milestone reinforces the belief that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India is not only the fastest-growing major economy but also a nation where the poorest are being empowered, included, and uplifted.
