MP Khandelwal writes to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to declare Bhamashah Birthday as National Traders Day
In a significant move to recognize the contributions of India’s trading community, Shri Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk and Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), has written a letter to Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal urging that the birth anniversary of the great patriot, philanthropist, and trader Bhamashah, on 28th June, be officially declared as National Traders’ Day.
Shri Khandelwal stated that Bhamashah is a revered figure and symbolic guardian of India’s trading community, and his historic support to Maharana Pratap as a trader is etched in golden letters in Indian history. He added that just as the country observes days dedicated to various professions such as Labour Day and Doctors’ Day, it is only fitting that 28th June be recognized as National Traders’ Day by the Government.
Elaborating on Bhamashah’s unparalleled legacy, Shri Khandelwal said that “Bhamashah symbolizes the core values of India’s trading community – patriotism, sacrifice, integrity, and entrepreneurship – all of which remain deeply relevant even today. He dedicated his entire wealth to the cause of Mewar’s freedom and to Maharana Pratap’s struggle. Declaring his birth anniversary as National Traders’ Day would not only honor his great sacrifice but also offer national recognition to over 9 crore traders across the country.”
He emphasized that traders continue to play a pivotal role in India’s economic development, job creation, supply chain systems, and revenue generation. However, their contribution still lacks the recognition it rightfully deserves.
Shri Khandelwal further added that the declaration of a National Traders’ Day would strengthen the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and inspire the younger generation to pursue honest, value-driven, and nationally committed entrepreneurship.
Recognizing Bhamashah Jayanti as National Traders’ Day, Shri Khandelwal concluded, would be a historic and symbolic step towards celebrating India’s rich trading heritage and those who have upheld it through the ages.
