In a landmark step towards Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament and Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders( CAIT), today launched the innovative Screen Protector – a high-quality, BIS-certified tempered glass screen protector for mobiles – developed by Optiemus Infracom Limited in collaboration with Corning Incorporated, USA, the global leader in specialty glass technology.

For the first time in the world, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced specific quality standards for “Chemically Tempered Glass Screen Protectors,” ensuring uniformity, durability, and consumer safety. The screen protector meets these stringent benchmarks and comes with ‘fog marking’ manufacturer branding on each piece, enabling customers to easily identify genuine products and avoid counterfeits.

Launching the product, Shri Khandelwal said: “This is not just a product launch, but a moment of pride for India. With the world’s first BIS standard for tempered glass, we are setting a global precedent in quality assurance while empowering Indian manufacturing. This is a perfect example of Indian innovation meeting global technology.”

Massive market potential

India, the second-largest smartphone market in the world by volume, has a domestic demand of nearly 400 million tempered glass screen protectors annually, with an estimated retail value of ₹20,000 crore in 2025. Currently, over 90% of this demand is met by low-cost imports, resulting in inconsistent quality and an unorganized market.
