KHANDELWAL APPLAUDS BIS CRACKDOWN ON FOREIGN E-COMMERCE GIANTS FOR NON-COMPLIANT GOODS
Shri Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, has praised the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its decisive action against leading e-commerce platforms—Amazon, Flipkart, and BigBasket—for selling non-compliant goods.
While commending BIS for its stringent enforcement, Khandelwal strongly criticized these foreign-funded e-commerce giants for repeatedly violating Indian laws with impunity. He also condemned quick commerce companies for violating regulations and undermining small retailers across the country.

Call for Government Action
Khandelwal announced that he will soon meet Union Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal and Consumer Affairs Minister Shri Prahlad Joshi to address this critical issue. He will urge the government to introduce comprehensive policies and regulations for both e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms to ensure strict compliance with Indian laws.
Emphasizing consumer safety, Khandelwal stated that any company disregarding mandatory BIS norms must be held accountable. He called for continuous strict enforcement, highlighting that the recent raids and product seizures demonstrate the urgent need for e-commerce platforms to adhere to BIS certification requirements.

Industry Leaders Demand Stronger Regulations
Key industry leaders have echoed Khandelwal’s concerns and demanded urgent regulatory reforms:
• B.C. Bhartia, President, CAIT– Called for stronger government oversight, warning that foreign e-commerce multinationals prioritize profits over consumer safety.
• Kailash Lakhyani, Chairman, AIMRA (All India Mobile Retailers Association)– Condemned e-commerce giants for persistent violations of Indian trade laws, including anti-competitive practices, predatory pricing, and the sale of substandard, non-BIS-certified products.
• Dhairyshil Patil, President, AICPDF (All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation)– Expressed concerns that quick-commerce platforms may also be engaging in deceptive trade practices. He urged authorities to conduct thorough investigations into such platforms to protect consumer interests.
• Sumit Agarwal, Joint Secretary General, CAIT – Demanded stringent action against foreign-funded e-commerce platforms that defy Indian laws. He urged the government to introduce stricter policies to prevent the sale of counterfeit and unsafe products.
Appeal for Consumer Awareness
Reaffirming his commitment to consumer protection, Khandelwal urged BIS to continue its proactive enforcement efforts and called for stringent legal action against violators.
